Our courses are held in a custom built log cabin style workshop set in surrounding woodland with views overlooking the nearby duckpond and surrounding valley. The workshop is fully fitted out for craft use with large desks, a range of domestic and industrial sewing machines including overlocker, blind hemming machine, eyelet machine, sewing tools, haberdashery and linings. We also stock a small selection of fabrics for soft furnishing use should you wish to purchase some. The workshop has a small kitchen area and washing and toilet facilities.

Student numbers are limited to 5 and courses run Monday - Friday from 9.30 in the morning until 2.30pm in the afternoon. Tea, coffee and snacks are provided throughout the course.

COURSE 1
CURTAIN MAKING / SOFT FURNISHINGS
Learn how to make curtains professionally. This course is aimed at beginners with little or no experience in making curtains and soft furnishings and will cover all the techniques required for making lined curtains using curtain heading tape. You will also learn how to make cushion covers, tiebacks, valances and many other tips and techniques used in creating soft furnishings.

All equipment and materials for samples are provided, further materials linings, haberdashery items for projects can be purchased on site.

If you have a window at home which you want to make curtains for please bring sufficient fabric (tutor can discuss this with you beforehand).

COURSE 2
CURTAIN MAKING / SOFT FURNISHINGS

This course is aimed at students who have some experience of curtain making and creating soft furnishings or who have completed Course 1. In this course you will learn the skills required to create, hang and dress a variety of hand sewn curtain headings including Goblet heading, Pinch pleat, Box Pleat, Tab Tops and Eyelet Headings. We will discuss interlinings and learn how to use to interline curtains. We will look at creating valances and ways of adding trims, decorations and borders to curtains, valances and cushion covers to create interesting design variations. All equipment and materials for samples are provided. Further materials, linings and haberdashery for projects can be purchased on site.

If you have a window at home which you would like to curtains for, please bring sufficient fabric as you will be able to complete a project on this course.

COURSE 3
FABRIC BLINDS AND PELMETS
Learn professionally how to dress windows using fabric blinds. Suitable for those with some sewing experience or those who have completed Curtain making course 1.

Fabric blinds are an interesting and eyecatching way to dress a window, this course covers making Roman Blinds and variations, London Blinds, Roller Blinds, Roll-up Blinds, Austrian, Festoon Blinds and using pelmets as a finishing touch for blinds. All equipment and materials for samples are provided, further materials linings, haberdashery items for projects can be purchased on site.

If you have a window at home which you would like to make a blind for, please bring sufficient fabric as you will be able to complete a project on this course.

Residential weekend courses - including 2 nights* accommodation / tea / coffee - £200
Non-residential - including tea /coffee during course - £200/week, £50/day.
Individual Tuition - £20 / hour
*Further nights available at £45 / night

Course participants may bring a non-studying friend or partner at an extra cost of £100 / week.
